Gleaning is a literary arts magazine at Judson University, Illinois. It is a collaborative partnership between the English department and the School of Art, Design, and Architecture, a community effort that welcomes contributions from students, alumni, and faculty across the majors. The magazine was founded in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and after severe cuts to the English department that eliminated a majority of the faculty. In a time of devastation, we remembered the grace of God in the gleaning, a remnant of nourishment and hope for those at the edges of the fields. When the abundance of the harvest has been taken away, the gleaners yet find something good that remains.
“When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. I am the LORD your God.” –Leviticus 23:22
